FINAL BLOG POST - OUR "DAILY TRIPLE" (DUE 12/1).
This week I would like you to use your imagination. You have just won the lottery and will leave your teaching post immediately to travel around the world. As you leave your keys you meet your replacement. You are asked to give this new teacher just ONE piece of advice. What would that be, and why? Enjoy your world expedition!

Blog Post - Week 7
This past week in my own teaching I felt a little disconnected which prompts my question to you, "What was the moment (or moments) when I felt most disconnected or disengaged as a teacher - the moment(s) I said to myself, I'm just going through the motions here?"

bmg

Thanks for the "open mic"! While I do not want to turn this opportunity into a "bmg" session, it is tempting to do so. If anyone has been reading my posts at all, they know my "cup runneth over" with stress at this point. I really love the students, even the " knotheads". While I am not contemplating "surrender" at this point, I am at wits end. I truly would not wish this year on my worst enemy. Having good people around me is a blessing-without them I truly would be drowning. If it were not for my NTI family, I would have already have capitulated. There is s
imply too much to do. For anyone who reads this, I apologize for whining. Tough week.

Joe,

We really need to a session on stress management and avoiding teacher burnout for NTI. What would you identify as the primary source of job stress for you? Maybe the NTI community can rally around you to brainstorm solutions for dealing with and resolving these stress issues.

Hey Joe, (no not the Jimmy Hendrix song) I have had a couple of classes that have been like that so far. Im not sure how your classes are stacked but I had a couple of seniors at least in each of them. After I sat back and looked at the situation from a distance, I came up with the great idea of giving these guys a little bit of power around the place. Once I did, and I gave them a true sense of belonging (ya know, that this shop is your shop speech) they started showing the hellians a little tough love. Now granted, im not sure what went on outside of the classroom and shop area (I.E. after school) but it was only a matter of weeks and the knotheads had turned into respectful little gentlemen. Just a thought.

Hi Joe,
You are not whining. I understand exactly what you are saying. I truly understand the sinking and drowning feeling. I've been there the last few days.

Let's just focus on our blessings. And try to pull ourselves up by the boot straps.

The end is near. I think we all just get so tired. Seems like never enough hours in the day. Not enough sleep. But the end is very near. We can see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's there...
