Rules For Posting To This Blog and Weekly Blog Question

1. Only use your first name (no last names, addresses, IM screen names, etc.)
2. Show respect and consideration of others when posting and commenting. This includes individuals, students, organizations, political parties, colleagues, etc.
3. Check all posts for spelling and grammar errors before posting.
4. Protect the privacy of others. Gain permission from other people before you write about them. Avoid sharing someone else's last name. Use job titles or pseudonyms when writing about experiences with your co-workers or students.
5. Watch your language. Use politically correct and non-offensive language.
6. Make sure you write about things that are factual.
7. Keep your postings education-oriented. Avoid discussing plans for the weekend, etc.

Parade Success

Tuesday was a great day for my Construction Technology program. It would appear that each year, I am going to be given the "opportunity" to create our entry for the downtown Rome Christmas parade. Other instructors do get involved, but my classes are responsible for the bulk of the work. This is actually ok, the students get to practice building something with a real-world meaning. It also means "competition". The students really get "psyched-up" when they have a chance to compete. The instructor doesn't, though. Ok-who am I kidding? I love it. Last year we placed fifth in the Adult division, this year we came in second. If we move up just one more slot next year..... You may want to consider doing a float if you can- it is great publicity for your program and your school.

Veteran's Day

We had a very nice assembly last Friday in honor of Veteran's Day. We honored past graduates, current employees as well as those in the community that have served in the millitary. Among those honored was a Marietta High graduate Captain Hayes Clayton. Captain Clayton was killed in the line of duty in Iraq last December. He left behind a wife and baby son. He also left behind his parents and two brothers. The reason that this story is so special to me is that I actually knew Hayes Clayton. We grew up on the same street and spent a lot of time together as kids. I had not seen him since high school when I found out about his death and I got to see his family at the assembly and offer my condolences. I just want to say a thank you to all who serve and have served because I really appreciate all that you do.
