OPEN MIC

My experience as a student at G. S. U. has been very interesting as well as challenging. The challenges I have encountered were with the computer issues. I find myself becoming a little frustrated when I have computer issues because they pose as a hindrance. These issues tend to be overpowering at times however, when I am able to get back on track everything flows a lot easier. As a teacher I am finding that you wear many hats and play many roles. I enjoy watching my students transform before my eyes. Being a positive impact in my students lives as they are molded into creative and motive driven human beings. As a teacher you can be friendly however, hold a standard and be firm about your decisions. I have also learned that my students watch what I do and how I respond or react to situations that arise in and out of the classroom. I have also be inspired to take two more classes at G.S.U. I only hope that my next professor will be as knowledgeable and passionate about student success as you all have been.

As a Student

The most important thing I've learned about myself as a STUDENT during the past three semesters in NTI is that time management is very important. It is most important to prioritize your schedule and manage yourself to allow ample time for all assignments and other work to be completed. I have a pretty demanding schedule and if I do not plan carefully it can be very hectic and cause unnecessary stress and pressure. I have also learned that I have a little more computer knowledge. The program at NTI has made me a more valuable teacher. I have also discovered that I am extremely patient, versatile and enjoy working with high school students. This has been an eventful year.

AS A TEACHER

The most important thing I've learned about myself as a teacher in the past term/year is that I am capable of working outside of my comfort zone. Many times when I make decisions I try to key it simple and make it comfortable for me. As a teacher I have realized that it cannot always be what is comfortable however, it needs to be what is best for the students success. I also realize that I tend to function better when I am in total control or at least have clear and descriptive directions therefore; this is the way I try to relate to my students. I have also learned that many of my students have a great amount of respect for me In and out of my presence. This was shared with me by a student who does not have my class. I realize that change is a process that takes place one step at a time.

Administration Experience

The most important thing I have learned about working with my school administrators this past term is how important they are to the school, teachers, students and parents. Our administrators are well equipped with a comprehensive plan of action for the overall improvement our school and the programs available to our students. The administrators here all work well together which demonstrates unity. This poses as an excellent example to our teaching staff and other faculty members. Our administration team is sensitive and supportive of the interaction between departments, community relation, school budgets, curriculum, instruction, standards, and program growth and student completers. Our team leaders/ administrators help us as teachers to remember self analysis is very critical yet important. As our school moves forward to school wide improvement our administration team assesses how we are currently functioning then put in place a plan of action to undertake as we strive to reach our desired goals together. We as a team could not survive this journey without the strong leadership we currently have representing our school.

My Students

The most important thing I have learned about my students in the past term/ year is that they enjoy participating in the demonstrations and hands on activities most. Many of the students are realizing that lectures and book work are important because it helps the students to establish the foundation needed to give them total understanding of hairstyling and other basic principles. However, using manikins and live body demonstrations really captures the students’ interest and motivates the learning environment. Students tend to gravitate around the areas that have the hands on activities more as opposed to being strictly committed to book work. I have also learned that the student’s are eager to participate in the upcoming hair extravaganza that will be hosted at our school.
The students are being a voice for our program which really makes a difference.

the same page as everyone else. I too will be away from a working computer therefore; I would like to confirm that there was not a new post that required our response. Enjoy your weekend.
