Sadness: The past few weeks have been very tough for my family and I. We experienced the unexpected passing of my cousin whom I assisted with in her care. She had been sick for a while, but she was, what we thought, on the road to recovery. Her death took us by surprise no less, but I we are all happy she no longer has to suffer or be in pain.
Shock: And if that wasn't enough to have to cope with, my dad, I guess with having to deal with our loss, was rushed to the hospital 2 days after the burial of my cousin for what appeared to be a heart attack. He was admitted into the hospital, and it was later discovered that what we assumed to had been a heart attack, was instead a stroke. He is at home now, and doing well.
Surprise: Needless to say, having to deal with the aforementioned above, I missed quite a few days, and weeks of school. In my absence, I was blessed with wonderful subs who carried out my lesson plans as if I was there myself! My students were very well behaved, and kept regular communication with me daily via Remind 101. Upon my return to school, I was greeted in my classroom on Wednesday by 4 of 5 of the Administrative staff with an award and restaurant gift certificate for somehow being nominated and winning Veteran teacher of the month for September. What a way to come back to school after having to endure sadness and shock. Receiving such an award made me feel valued and appreciated! #TeachersRock

Hey Yvonne I am very sorry to hear about your recent loss and hospital scare with your father. I have been dealing with some family issues as of late, and they are not fun. On a more positive note, congratulations on the nomination and award! I was out for a week earlier this semester and when I returned I was bombarded with "welcome back's" and "we missed you's," and it felt really good. A week later I was nominated for the "Golden Apple Award" for Career Tech. It was nice to know that hard work doesn't always go unnoticed. I like to think administrators take notice to good teachers and do everything in their effort to try to acknowledge and retain their hard work. I know this NTI program has already kick-started me to becoming a great teacher, and I still have a long way to go and a lot to learn. Congratulations again and keep being awesome, we need good teachers!
