Rules For Posting To This Blog and Weekly Blog Question

1. Only use your first name (no last names, addresses, IM screen names, etc.)
2. Show respect and consideration of others when posting and commenting. This includes individuals, students, organizations, political parties, colleagues, etc.
3. Check all posts for spelling and grammar errors before posting.
4. Protect the privacy of others. Gain permission from other people before you write about them. Avoid sharing someone else's last name. Use job titles or pseudonyms when writing about experiences with your co-workers or students.
5. Watch your language. Use politically correct and non-offensive language.
6. Make sure you write about things that are factual.
7. Keep your postings education-oriented. Avoid discussing plans for the weekend, etc.

Perceived Roles

What do I believe is the role of a GC in High School? I see a part of what they do and they are "mega-mulit-taskers". I believe their role is to guide students on what classes to take, guide them on life after high school and handle minor social services issues. However I see them do much more than that. Student scheduling issues, parent- student issues, student-student issues, environmental issues and home issues. They roll with the changes and look pretty overloaded most of the time.

Unknown said...: I agree with you one this one. Many times people see the "outside" but not what goes on "Behind-The-Scenes". Guidance Counselors as well as teachers in general have a lot going on that they have to deal with and manage. I am seeing this "firsthand" as I go through my "Student Teacher Practicum" at McEachern HS. Observing my "Mentor Teacher" and the work that has to be completed on a daily and weekly basis, has given me a whole new respect for Teachers and yes, Counselors!; February 16, 2013 at 10:06:00 PM EST
