As you leave your keys you meet your replacement. You are asked to give this new teacher just ONE piece of advice. What would that be, and why? Enjoy your world expedition!

Blog Post - Week 7
This past week in my own teaching I felt a little disconnected which prompts my question to you, "What was the moment (or moments) when I felt most disconnected or disengaged as a teacher - the moment(s) I said to myself, I'm just going through the motions here?"

Previously this semester you have experienced synchronous online learning (all together in the Collaborate room). Which do you think is more effective and why do you think that? Which do you like better, and why?

Week 8: Professional Community

Although I have only been teaching for a short time, I find that I really enjoy the students in the my classroom and enjoy the time I spend teaching.  What I have not found enjoyable this year is working with other teachers. Even though I have limited experience I have unofficially been dubbed the head of the county department as well as the head of TSA.  It has been frustrating to get the other teachers to get involved and to get their students involved. The teachers come on the trips, and attend the meetings but don't really take responsibility to get their students involved.  I do not work in the same school with these teachers, and while I know it is my responsibility as the "leader" to get them involved and to fulfill the commitments, I feel like they should be taking more responsibility (I can't hold their hands all year, and next year they will have to have a TSA club on their own).  These teachers are older than me (some by more than 10 years), and I feel they have more experience than me.  I can see that teaching is so much more than just teaching in a classroom.

Brandon, I have found the same. I am very grateful that the bulk of our staff will jump in with 2 feet without question with anything. There is always someone who will be more like the student than the teacher though. A teacher looked at me funny the other day and I said, Oh, we made about $200 because I thought she was inquiring. She said, on what and I said Nacho Tacos. She said, that was today? I said yes, we planned it in our meeting and it is on the calendar I sent everyone. She said you're going to have to remind me. I forgot my politically correct role a moment and I said, "AT YOUR AGE? I am so sorry, my reminder was the calendar. I have trouble reminding grown folks of anything."

Brandon, maybe I have some growing up to do myself in this area, but this is a struggle for me. Not only do we plan things together, I send out a calendar, we meet about these things every week and I still need to tell you the day before and the morning of....NO, I don't think so.

I will all depend on your school. I understand what the two of you are saying. For me, it;s the opposite. We have three healthcare teachers. Sometimes,I feel that I don't carry my load. I help with the advisory meetings but not with HOSA. Our head teacher is over HOSA. It is really hard to get my Physical Medicine students interested. Most of them volunteer as student athletic trainers working at sports functions. This year, hopefully, my school will let me attend the HOSA convention here in Atlanta on November 8.
Chef Tiffany, I agree. You shouldn't have to remind a grown pertson about a function. I like the fundraiser idea with the nacho tacos. Maybe I can come up with a fundraier selling snacks for my physical medicine program.
