Rules For Posting To This Blog and Weekly Blog Question

1. Only use your first name (no last names, addresses, IM screen names, etc.)
2. Show respect and consideration of others when posting and commenting. This includes individuals, students, organizations, political parties, colleagues, etc.
3. Check all posts for spelling and grammar errors before posting.
4. Protect the privacy of others. Gain permission from other people before you write about them. Avoid sharing someone else's last name. Use job titles or pseudonyms when writing about experiences with your co-workers or students.
5. Watch your language. Use politically correct and non-offensive language.
6. Make sure you write about things that are factual.
7. Keep your postings education-oriented. Avoid discussing plans for the weekend, etc.

Jigsaw

One the methods I used in my classroom was jigsaw teaching. I gave each student an engineer title instead of me standing in front of the classroom explaining 25 different engineer titles. Students were given an engineer and researched that type of engineer. After allotted time on the internet, the student presented their engineer to the class. I felt that having each student research and present an engineer they got much more out of the lesson because the student taught the lesson.

Sounds good! We're doing healthcare careers soon. I'm going to incorporate that into my lesson plan. I was dreading having to stand up there and talk to them about the various careers, and I know they wouldn't like it either. I wanted to have them them research careers, but "giving" them a career will have them more engaged. Thanks.

The jigsaw didn't work as well the 1st time around as I had hoped. They act like they are terrified to speak (even sitting). I asked them if they would rather each read all the information for themselves and they'd rather not. So we will keep at it until they are comfortable. It's great when valuable information is actually shared. They'll get it.
