Rules For Posting To This Blog and Weekly Blog Question

Teacher made test..............

This semester through NTI I have learned that no method of test making is flawless. I have made test myself and I have taken test off of a CD and both ways have had mistakes. The one thing I have learned though is you need to give a test around three or four times before all of the kinks are worked out of it as far as wording and levels of knowledge. I will however re-write my true/false sections to reflect more levels of thinking. I also like the idea of using pictures in matching sections. I have always been scared of giving essay type questions but I may add one to each test. I have learned alot about test making. I learned about the different types and I think I will not be afraid to write my own, verses taking one off a CD.

Pamela said...: Becky, I agree with you. The tests I've created have been terrible based on the new information learned in NTI. I too, am afraid of the essay type questions due to the number of students with IEPs in my classroom. Like you, I will do more with the pictures so that all students may benefit.; April 1, 2011 at 2:54:00 PM EDT
Angie said...: I agree Becky. I have the reliable CD provided with the course management guide. The CD is not always perfect, as my student are quick to point out mistakes. I feel more comfortable about making my own tests after learning the valuable information this semester. I was also glad to learn how to make true/false reflect deeper levels of thinking. I also agree about being scared to use essay questions. I think I have been scared because it leaves room for students to fight for the correct answer.

I have been guilty also of not "formalizing" my tests leaving room for mis-interpretation.

NTI again has shown me more "tools" to work with in my quest of teaching my students.

I think the biggest challenge for me is to rework my tests so that I glean the information I need from my students to see if they have actually learned the material I am teaching.; April 10, 2011 at 4:03:00 PM EDT
