FINAL BLOG POST - OUR "DAILY TRIPLE" (DUE 12/1).
This week I would like you to use your imagination. You have just won the lottery and will leave your teaching post immediately to travel around the world. As you leave your keys you meet your replacement. You are asked to give this new teacher just ONE piece of advice. What would that be, and why? Enjoy your world expedition!

Blog Post - Week 7
This past week in my own teaching I felt a little disconnected which prompts my question to you, "What was the moment (or moments) when I felt most disconnected or disengaged as a teacher - the moment(s) I said to myself, I'm just going through the motions here?"

Implementation of new ideas

Well let's see.... what have I implemented from our summer quarter at NTI? I am starting my third year teaching and I am still changing things daily. I have learned that EVERY class is very different and what works for one group will not work for another one.

I love having the lesson plans out and ready to go. I have found that I am changing them daily but they are a good guide to get me started.

I try to do the set induction daily.

I have started walking around the room more and I've found that it does keep the talking down. I have also used one or two of the discipline techniques (yes already and it's only week 3!!!!).

I loved the 10 minute/game ideas that Ms. Chillis gave out. I used several of the ice breakers coupled with prizes the first few days of class and the kids loved them :)

I am planning on using the gallery tour this week when my students finish their time-line projects.

I have used several teaching techniques and I am interested to see how others will be helpful in the next few weeks.

Thanks for the reminder. I remeber the gallery tour was a great activity. My apps class is doing career planning. The gallery tour will be a great way to learn about other healthcare careers.

Sounds like you have started off to a good start Becky. I agree with you, the games and icebreakers did help the first few days of school. My ninth graders were a little reluctant to participate, but they quickly gained confidence to speak out loud. I agree with Pamela, I think the gallery tour would be a great idea for my first class project.

I did the gallery tour today with the timeline projects and the kids were very excited. At the end, I let each group pick one project that they thought was the best and I had a prize for them. I will use this again in the future..... Great idea:)
