Rules For Posting To This Blog and Weekly Blog Question

1. Only use your first name (no last names, addresses, IM screen names, etc.)
2. Show respect and consideration of others when posting and commenting. This includes individuals, students, organizations, political parties, colleagues, etc.
3. Check all posts for spelling and grammar errors before posting.
4. Protect the privacy of others. Gain permission from other people before you write about them. Avoid sharing someone else's last name. Use job titles or pseudonyms when writing about experiences with your co-workers or students.
5. Watch your language. Use politically correct and non-offensive language.
6. Make sure you write about things that are factual.
7. Keep your postings education-oriented. Avoid discussing plans for the weekend, etc.

Helping the Drop Out Students!!!!!!

Today in our teachers meeting we talked about bringing 9th graders to our school these 9th graders are 16,17 years old and we don't want them to drop out of school we want to help them pick a career to work towards getting certification so they can go to work. I think this is a great idea because some people may not make it to college but they would have a better chance if they graduated from high school and had a trade so they could take care of themselves instead of robbing, killing people for their money.

Dr. M said...: Hi, Zelda - I like your attitude but be ready for 9th grade behaviors, as many in career tech believe they are too immature for lab classes, especially where materials or processes can be dangerous. Of course safety is a huge concern for all ages, but be especially mindful of your young and even more preoccupied 9th graders.; October 28, 2009 at 8:44:00 AM EDT
Tonya said...: Zelda, I think that many of our career/tech students benefit so much from our programs. I have one student this year that failed biology at his home school last year and was not supposed to be able to come back to my class this year. He flat out told his counselor that if he couldn't come to "tech school" then he was quitting school all together. Well, needless to say, he is back in my class this year. He is the type of student who could easily go down the wrong path. I am so amazed at his progress this year. He is always asking me questions about different career paths in health care. I can really see that he is thinking about his future. He will sometimes ask me, "Do you really think that I could do that or be that, Mrs. Walsh?". And I will honestly answer him with, "I KNOW you can, as long as you are willing to put forth the effort". I really believe that he can and will!; October 31, 2009 at 10:58:00 AM EDT
