Proof of improvement or learning teaching skills

I have an overall feeling that I have improved because I feel more comfortable in the classroom in general. I have my routines down. my kids follow my routines for the most part, and I feel more at ease when dealing with a student who is not acting appropriately. I know I have alot to learn, but I feel like it is a continuous process and I learn something new every single day. One example of this learning process is allowing enough time for completion of a project, but not enough time to allow for getting off task. I wrote down notes on each project on how long each project should last realistically based on how long they lasted last semester. I have found this has really helped with my planning for this semester. I have also learned that unless it is an emergency, I don't take work home. This has helped alot with my motivation and energy levels in the classroom. I use my off time as off time and my planning and before school time as work time. I am much more efficient this way.

Hi Shellee,
That is such a great way to improve-making notes on lesson plans, project plans etc. so that you use time more effectively. I also believe you improve as a teacher when you have a balanced life and realizing you need time for yourself and your family. Thank you for your post. Dr. J.

Hi Shellee, I smiled when I read about you having your routines down and the fact that your kids follow your routines. I had a sub today because I was chosen for "Moodle Boot Camp" at my school (FUN). Anyway, when I came in at the end of the day the sub was telling me about the classes, "great, he said" and that they had turned in their work. I was looking on the desk but couldn't find their work anywhere. He just laughed and said that they had all turned it in at the back of the room in the basket. It's great that even when a sub comes in they are so used to the "routine" that they just continue without even thinking about deviating or trying to find trouble.
When you move to Middle School next year you will have a really good basis for lessons as well as time management for those kids. My hat is off to you for taking on a Middle School challenge, but I know you will be great with them!
