Rules For Posting To This Blog and Weekly Blog Question

1. Only use your first name (no last names, addresses, IM screen names, etc.)
2. Show respect and consideration of others when posting and commenting. This includes individuals, students, organizations, political parties, colleagues, etc.
3. Check all posts for spelling and grammar errors before posting.
4. Protect the privacy of others. Gain permission from other people before you write about them. Avoid sharing someone else's last name. Use job titles or pseudonyms when writing about experiences with your co-workers or students.
5. Watch your language. Use politically correct and non-offensive language.
6. Make sure you write about things that are factual.
7. Keep your postings education-oriented. Avoid discussing plans for the weekend, etc.

Portfolio

I believe having a portfolio will be helpful in my professional growth. The portfolio will enhance my ability to show the education and experience that I have obtained. Therefore, this will let parents know that they are getting a qualified and competent teacher for the curriculum their children are taking. The portfolio is a way my principal could maintain knowledge on my background and qualifications. The portfolio is a good tool to use as a resume for future positions. I’m thinking about attaching my portfolio to my school blog as an example for my students to view. The students would then have a way to see my qualifications and expertise. Then, maybe my portfolio would be useful to my students when they continue their education, especially if they attend a career tech college.

Riley said...: I agree that the portfolio is a great way to document and display education and experience. I didn't think about the parent aspect of having a portfolio. It would be an excellent way to show your credentials. It is definitely a way that administration can keep tabs on what you are doing. I agree that the portfolio is useful for the people around us, but it is also useful for us. I think that the portfolio helps me keep up with my experiences. The portfolio is like a mirror. ConnieB said...: I also did not think about using it to showcase to parents your credentials. I really like that. Also allowing administrators access is a great idea. I just had my evaluation from administration for the year and he had said if there was something great going on in the class I would want him to see let him know and he would visit then. The portfolio could help with evaulations, especially if you keep it up-to-date. I had to provide samples for a evaluation portfolio at the end of last year and using this portfolio will help keep that organized and ready to go when the time comes.; February 14, 2009 at 9:42:00 AM EST
