Rules For Posting To This Blog and Weekly Blog Question

1. Only use your first name (no last names, addresses, IM screen names, etc.)
2. Show respect and consideration of others when posting and commenting. This includes individuals, students, organizations, political parties, colleagues, etc.
3. Check all posts for spelling and grammar errors before posting.
4. Protect the privacy of others. Gain permission from other people before you write about them. Avoid sharing someone else's last name. Use job titles or pseudonyms when writing about experiences with your co-workers or students.
5. Watch your language. Use politically correct and non-offensive language.
6. Make sure you write about things that are factual.
7. Keep your postings education-oriented. Avoid discussing plans for the weekend, etc.

Interviewing a counselor became my assignment for the week. I feel this process helped understand what the counselors deal with and the stress at times they submit themselves to. Mr Hardy at Morrow High School became my task. I really feel comfortable speaking with him because from the first day at Morrow he helped me gain knowledge on how to recruit students for my program. When I first came to Morrow I actually had to go from class to class recruiting students to make my program of Criminal Justice interesting to the student body and he had a big hand in my success. I feel the program runs better when your administrators and counselors involve themselves. I have heard horror stories from other schools in my county how CRJU has become a dumping ground for students who continue to show bad behavior, but I beleive because of my relationship with the coounselors I receive students who really and truly want to learn about Criminal Justices Information. Couselors can make your studentgs who you receive be the blood line of your program.

I wish I would have done this when I started the CJ program at Ola last year. I ended up being a dumping ground right off the bat because students nor counselors knew anything about it. However, I really didn't know much about what to expect either...it was my first year teaching! I have slowly but surely started turning the program around yet the process hasn't been as easy one. I should have buddied up with a counselor on day one!
