I have completed these reports and have found great resources. I had no idea the counseling office had so much to offer. They provide various services to students and teachers. The students can get not only academic help, but social or personal advice. Adolscence is tuff, so to have someone to help you through it is great. Also, it is very convenient being located in the school. They offer teacher support by being present during parent teacher conferences. That is a huge plus to me.
I try to stay in touch with all the post secondary schools. I invite them to visit and speak to my classes. This gives the students a chance to ask questions and watch demonstrations. Gives the schools a chance to promote themselves. It is a win-win situations for everyone involved.

Aimee, I agree that adolescence is tough, and we use our counseling office to refer students frequently. However, I imagine that sometimes I should refer, but do not because of my lack of knowledge. Your post reminds me that I really need to question my counselor and identify issues that should be referred. I suppose a good rule of thumb is that we should refer and let the trained counselor make decisions rather than us trying to figure our whether or not to refer...err on the active side. Did that make since??? Anyway, I am looking forward to my counseling interview. I have e-mailed her a list of questions and will get with her soon. I imagine she will enlighten me with information I didn't even know to ask.
Hi, Aimee - great post - I like that you have the post secondary folks in to speak with your students. Many students are intimidated by what comes after high school, and if they have a familiar face they can attach to a school they are more likely to attend that school after graduation. Keep bringing them in and keep that relationship active!
