Rules For Posting To This Blog and Weekly Blog Question

1. Only use your first name (no last names, addresses, IM screen names, etc.)
2. Show respect and consideration of others when posting and commenting. This includes individuals, students, organizations, political parties, colleagues, etc.
3. Check all posts for spelling and grammar errors before posting.
4. Protect the privacy of others. Gain permission from other people before you write about them. Avoid sharing someone else's last name. Use job titles or pseudonyms when writing about experiences with your co-workers or students.
5. Watch your language. Use politically correct and non-offensive language.
6. Make sure you write about things that are factual.
7. Keep your postings education-oriented. Avoid discussing plans for the weekend, etc.

Bernardo

This fall semester has been very challenging. After several months of planning and designing my lab it still is not completed. I have had to explain to my students on several occassions why my lab is not completed . It seems as if the Atlanta Public School system do not understand the urgency in completeing this lab. I am trying to keep my students interested but some of them are losing interest due to the lack of equipment. Most of my students signed up for my class thinking they would have the opportunity to have hands on experience with the latest broadcasting equipment. I hope the school system doesn't let them down.

Linda G said...: Hello Bernardo. I know how frustrating this is for you. I also experienced the same type of situation my first year teaching. In the County in which I taught I had 2 major problems. One was the lack of major items arriving (computers, printers, etc.)and secondly when they finally did arrived it took 2 months for someone from the County to hook everything up. I taught without a plain whitboard for 3 months. I believe the key to surviving this is within our own selves. Our attitudes (mine included)can either get us through it or have us walking. I am going back into teaching after walking. This time I am prepared for the challenges and coming back a much stronger, well equipped teacher ready to use some in-flight thinking skills when challenges arrive (and they WILL!)

Nitzana Floyd said...: Bernardo, I know the feeling. Last year, I literally had to build my studio from scratch. I dug around the closet overflowing with stuff and pieced everything together the best I knew how. My best resources were my students (not the county). They know more about A/V equipment. If there is anything that I can loan you until you get you own stuff, let me know. I have an audio board, XLR cables and a couple of camcorders you can use until you get up and running.
