This past week in my own teaching I felt a little disconnected which prompts my question to you, "What was the moment (or moments) when I felt most disconnected or disengaged as a teacher - the moment(s) I said to myself, I'm just going through the motions here?"

Stupidity of Administrative Crap

When I was in High School ( April 15, in the Year of our Lord-Knows-When!) our parents were given a sheet of paper that had the classes we needed to take in order to graduate...then on a Saturday, we went to the gym and stood in the line, of the classes we needed; signed up...got the official "okie-dokie" of the teacher and we were in! The only problem experienced by the teacher was the occasional need for a pee-pee break on that Saturday.

Advisement is the biggest lie ever perpetrated on "teacher-dom". I didn't spoon feed my infant daughter (back when moses was a carpenter) as much! The past 4 weeks I have...Gone to three departmental meetings, a staff meeting, three Advisement training sessions, two new teacher meetings, a fire, intruder and tornado drill, an occasional pee-pee break and...lunch room duty for a total of ten days! My classes are behind by a week.

Add to that this the night I was recruited to be a timer at our county swim meet (My eyes were red with chlorine , I almost fell in twice, and I know I swallowed some water I'm certain those students had peed in!) and I had less that three class days to teach!

When does education become educating the kids? Why are there so many administrative functions? Why do I itch here? I'm learning as a new teacher that the dog needs feeding but there are no bones...just cartiledge ! (Yech!).

HELP!

Another great post. This would make a great open mike skit at a comedy club. Maybe you should talk to JaJuan. The two of you could embark on a standup comedy adventure together. Keep your sense of humor in tact. You know, you just gotta' love it!

Ya know, I'm finding that I'm not only the school nurse and a healthcare teacher, but I'm also the school cop. What I really want to know is when I'm going to get my badge and pay raise?!?! I was so #$%*#$*@* off today when the SRO heard me confronting a student in the hall about his dress code issues and the students was smarting off to me and he was sitting in his office laughing. What a joke HE is!

I read your comment on my blog....I would think out of all people you would understand and appreciate the "saying" in it's purest form instead of grading it like you were an "ENGLISH PROFESSOR"....surely you know that I meant to use "AIN'T" in my comment(hence the abbreviations)
