Rules For Posting To This Blog and Weekly Blog Question

1. Only use your first name (no last names, addresses, IM screen names, etc.)
2. Show respect and consideration of others when posting and commenting. This includes individuals, students, organizations, political parties, colleagues, etc.
3. Check all posts for spelling and grammar errors before posting.
4. Protect the privacy of others. Gain permission from other people before you write about them. Avoid sharing someone else's last name. Use job titles or pseudonyms when writing about experiences with your co-workers or students.
5. Watch your language. Use politically correct and non-offensive language.
6. Make sure you write about things that are factual.
7. Keep your postings education-oriented. Avoid discussing plans for the weekend, etc.

Last semester had both good and bad issues. The only bad thing was all three of my classes were intro. So I had all new students. I didnt know any of them on the first day of classes. But it was good because I could use the same lesson plan for all day. This semester started off good in the aspect because I have a Level 1, 2, and 3. I have some of my advanced students back and already a relationship established with them. Bad is that I now have to come up with 3 separate lesson plans each day. I did incorporate a lot of things I learned from NTI into my classes. It made the classes go so much smoother.

I agree with Julie. It does help to know your students. One thing that might help with the lesson planning for three classes is if you can cover similar topics/units in all thre classes, but just teach them at appropriate levels. In other words, if you could cover masonry in all three classes, but in your Level 1 class, you would introduce it, in your Level 2 class, you would teach move beyond basic masonry skills, and in your Level 3 class, you might have to the students do a project that required them to apply advanced masonry techniques. It's just a thought.

Having "split" classes can be a blessing and a burden. Coming up with so many different plans is a pain, but you do get to stretch your brain. (Sorry for the bad rhyme. My students would really laugh at that.)

Knowing your students works out good,But sometimes when they get to know they think that they can get away with more .But for the most part I really enjoy getting to know the students and trying to not only teach them but to also instill some work ethics and values into my students.

I agree that is always helps when the students know you and you know the students. I actually have 4 preps because they have given me a split class. Thankfully the split class is all my juniors and seniors.

Once you come up with the lesson plans it will make the future years of teaching much easier. Although you must stay current on the subject matter the foundation will basically stay the same.
