As you leave your keys you meet your replacement. You are asked to give this new teacher just ONE piece of advice. What would that be, and why? Enjoy your world expedition!

Blog Post - Week 7
This past week in my own teaching I felt a little disconnected which prompts my question to you, "What was the moment (or moments) when I felt most disconnected or disengaged as a teacher - the moment(s) I said to myself, I'm just going through the motions here?"

TIEGA Conference

Hello Everyone,
I wanted to encourage each of you to attend the TIEGA Conference in January. It is January 25 (evening) and January 26 in Newnan, GA. TIEGA stands for Trade and Industrial Educators of Georgia. Jessie and I will have a GSU information booth there and would really like some of you to help us staff it. I was going to say "man" it, but that sounded gender specific, and "woman" it didn't sound right either. HSTE teachers also have sessions at the TIEGA conference and I think they have a pretty good time. I think Jessie and I will be presenters at the HSTE part.
TIEGA has a web site and I encourage you to check it out. At the same time, check out the web site of the Association of Career and Technical Education (ACTE). ACTE is the national organization and it doesn't cost much to join in comparion to other professional organizations. ACTE keeps you posted on all the latest CTE news, plus you receive Techniques Magazine. Jessie and I are both members, and we will be presenting a session at the National Conference in Las Vegas. I presented last year at the conference in Atlanta. With this organization, I have colleagues all over the country and I really enjoy seeing them once a year! If you have any questions about either organization, please email me and I'll tell you what I know. Well, Thanksgiving is over and it's back to the salt mine - at least mine is wonderful Sea Salt! I will definitely see you at TIEGA. When I first took this job, I did not understand the need for all of these pro. orgs. However, I had a much wiser teacher explain the need for representation, etc. Presently, I think I am a member of everything except the UN.
