More Money!

We've gone through all of our carpentry materials here in the shop and so I approached my supervisor about funds for next semesters' Carpentry 1 classes, I have 2. She said "Oh No, you have to buy all of that material now! We don't have new monies for next semester"! So I'm thinking, "Is there a lot of money left in the supply? Do I have to purchase all of that stuff now and cram it into my shop, (Because I have no outside storage)? Carpentry 1 is an advanced class. We get into building concrete forms, buildings, doors and windows, etc. I'm wondering just how much recycling I am going to have to do because of a lack of funds. All the more reason to raise the money I guess. We'll see what happens!

I certainley hear you! It makes me sick, but teachers are able to write off of their taxes up to $500 a year (from their itemized taxes) for things we must purchase for our classes from our private funds! Is that a joke or what! They realize our funding is insufficient and give us "incentives" to purchase our own supplies...we do a lot of funding raising in our CTAE at Baldwin. Every Wednesday, we sell Chick Fillet sandwiches and are able to raise about $300 a week in PROFITS...we do what is necessary to provide for the students.

It would be nice if you could get some live work. The automotive shop has made about a thousand dollars so far this year. The customer pays for the material and we ask for a donation for the labor.

Talk to Riley, Gary, Trevor and others in the class about raising money through your program. Automotive and Construction programs really lend themselves well to generating funds for supplies, etc.

Yeah, what she said! Construction dept can be a money making explosion if you plan it right. I know our construction dept builds a lot of small storage buildings and then sells them for cost plus 15% and they turn thier entire QBE allotment plus 15% into program money. They are sitting on around $15,000 right at the moment.
