Yes, I had to take up another cell phone today! The guy is sitting right in front of me. His cell phone vibrates in his pocket, he proceeds to take it out and answer it. He couldn't believe that I was taking his cell phone away and writing him up too!
I am going to recommend the cloaking device that Gary talked about Paulding County having in schools to my principal. Way too much time is wasted with teachers battling students over cells phones! And iPods and other electronic devices!
I know parents are concerned about their kids being able to contact them if something tragic is happening at school, and I do understand that. But parents have no idea how disruptive cells phones and iPods are at school.

We cannot take the cell phones away from the students. There has been incidents where the students filed property damages against the school. Students claim that the teacher had broken or scrathed their property. The principal has instructed that we must write the students up for using a cell phone or music player in class. Where are the parents?
Satewide ban! Statewide ban! I'm to understand that many students work and pay for thier own phones. Parents have little to do with many of these kids as far as phones are concerned. They are responsible for thier own phones. Even if we received varification that these phones belong to the parents they should understand that thier kids aren't allowed to have them in class. They should understand that if thier kids are caught using one during class then they in-turn sacrifice the phone themselves. That's what I say!
I concur that we should implement policies that don't allow any electronics in school. If legislation can be passed for nonsense, then why can't we inplement this rule that would actually help the students be in a conducive learning environment without interruptions.
I agree! Ban the Cells! I am constantly writing up students for using their cells in my class. And almost every time they get fighting mad in disbelief that I am bothered by their phone. How in the world did we actually survive without a cell phone?- Riley
I wish I could take the cell phones away, but I was advised by my administration that I could not for the same reason garyb mentioned. Electronics should be banned during school hours!!They are disruptive. I also found out that kids will ask to go to the restroom just to use their phone or ipod. BUT on the other hand, I can't tell you how many teachers I have seen using their phones in the hall. What message is that!
