Wow! Has it been six weeks already!

I can't believe it has been six weeks already and fall break is here!! Hallelujah!!!! It has gone by rather quickly. It has been so busy, learning a new school, the administration, the kids and how to try to use ed line as well as grade quick. I feel like the road runner, everything is in fast motion. My biggest challenge has been trying to read IEP's and learn how to modify assignments based on those needs. I have not received an in service on how to do modifications just told I needed to follow those IEP's. Hhum!If anyone has advise, please let me know. Beside the special need modifications everything has been quite interesting. The kids are great and full of energy. I have learned a dance called "Soljia Boy". I finally received my books today!! (six weeks into the school year) Well guys, talk to you soon.

Hi Esther,
I am glad you have received your books.I don't have enough books for either of my classes.I hope to get some soon.Last year ,I had a student with an IEP.I asked her what type of test did she do best. She preferred true/false and fill-in the blank (with a word bank ). I did notice an improvement in her test scores with these test.It wasn't hard to modify my original test to accommodate this student.I sometimes gave her less questions and some of the other students wanted to know why. They also wanted the same type of test.I made sure the same basic information was in the modified test. Hopefully, this information will be of benefit. The new dance is "quite" a workout ( with all the jumping around ).I've seen my grandson in action doing that dance. Take care.

Fall break? You lucky teacher!

As to the issue of the IEPs, I recommend that you talk with a special needs teacher at your school to get ideas from him or her. Also, many of the ESOL strategies I discussed this summer (and the ones in the handout that went with my presentation) may prove helpful for special needs students on IEPs.
