1st Week Blog

Hi to all. This is my post for last week. I am running behind lately. I find myself always a day late and a dollar short everyday. I realized this weekend that I don't have enough time to do everything that I have committed myself to (personal and professional). Even though we did those Classroom Management Plans during the summer I still find myself needed more time to do things. Does anyone have any suggestions how to get everything done in a school day. I don't like taking things home but this weekend I took papers home to grade. I like to get everything graded and returned the next day. I think my biggest difference between this year and last year is that I am teaching 3 different levels of Healthcare Science. Last year, I taught only 2 level each semester ( I had 2 classes of the same level). I have also committed myself to starting HOSA which as been on the back burner until this week. Do any of you Healthcare Science Folks have any suggestions on a good Kick-off for HOSA? I am planning to elect officers this week so I am planning to let them do the kick-off.

Jamie, I had a "Welcome Back to School/Join HOSA" party where I provided some food (chips, cookies, and cokes) and my members from last year met my new Healthcare 1 students and tried to talk up HOSA and some of our activities. It's a little far for you to get your group to the FFA camp in Covington, but they have a BASICS rope course that would also be a good idea to build team leadership and stability.

Also, keep in mind, it's not just about you this year. You have a little girl who is demanding a good bit of your time, not to mention your other two running around the house! Keep your head up but remember that God and family come first! The papers can wait, although not long, so you can take care of yourself as well! :)

I think it's all a matter of time management and making decisions about which things you really have to devote time to and which things it would be nice to devote time to if you had the time. Here are some websites devoted to this topic that you might find helpful:

Hi Jamie,
I know exactly how you feel! I am struggling with time management too.

Yes, I take papers home to grade. I spent all day Saturday grading papers. Yes, it is a LOT of work with three different levels!

I decided not to do HOSA this year. I talked to my department chair and she was OK with it. I just do not know how I could squeeze another minute into the day or week.

I am encouraging all my students to join Skills USA. And maybe next year I will get HOSA up and running.

Hang in there. And me too! Ha! Ha!
