question of the week

January 28th - February 3rd-- Of everything you did last week as a teacher, what would you do differently? Why? I would try to have things prepared for my sub. a little more in advance.I took my three personal days last thursday thru monday to go out of town.I was at school until about 7:30 wed. getting my lesson plans together for my sub.Although I had thought about what I needed to do a week or so in advance,[which I know Thinking about it was the easy part]I did not act on it until the day I left on vacation.I am continuing to struggle with procrastination .I think when I learn to be better prepared is when my Job gets a whole lot easier.

You hit the nail on the head. Successful teaching is probably something like 99% behind-the-scenes preparation and 1% action. I try to imagine that I'm a film director or an athletic coach when I design activities and lesson plans. I try to visualize how I want the scene [of the lesson] to play out. This inspires me. You just have to find your own source of inspiration.

Its always smart to have at least some kind of sub plans in place for your student because you never know when youll have to be out. That leaves us with the fact that you simply dont have time to keep them regularly updated.

I usually pick out a few chapters in the text book that can apply to all classes and leave them in the desk drawer along with all other necessery items, then update them when I can.

BTW, speaking of sub plans, always remember to leave your emergency door tags where they can be found by anyone incase of an emergency or drill.
