Rules For Posting To This Blog and Weekly Blog Question

1. Only use your first name (no last names, addresses, IM screen names, etc.)
2. Show respect and consideration of others when posting and commenting. This includes individuals, students, organizations, political parties, colleagues, etc.
3. Check all posts for spelling and grammar errors before posting.
4. Protect the privacy of others. Gain permission from other people before you write about them. Avoid sharing someone else's last name. Use job titles or pseudonyms when writing about experiences with your co-workers or students.
5. Watch your language. Use politically correct and non-offensive language.
6. Make sure you write about things that are factual.
7. Keep your postings education-oriented. Avoid discussing plans for the weekend, etc.

Do Differently - Week 3

Please write a post about the following question, "In thinking about my past week teaching what is one thing I would do differently, and why?"

One thing I have been trying to do differently is not take things so personally. I can not control how people perceive my program or CTAE as whole. I can not control the way others respond to our "required trips" and competitions or exposing our students to opportunities they would not other wise be exposed to. I can not control that people are surprised that we have pathway completers that pass the EOPA, though no student had ever passed engineering at our school before I came. But I can stop internalizing other peoples opinions and that is what I WILL do differently for now on!

Anonymous said...: Yes, I would agree with you at first, I thought that what people said made me feel like I was a horrible teacher and thought about it for a long time. I had a student tell me that I should not be a teacher and find another profession. I have quickly learned that students try to figure you and see where you come from. I am a person that takes things to personally, but I know in the future that I will do better.; December 1, 2016 at 5:21:00 PM EST
