Rules For Posting To This Blog and Weekly Blog Question

1. Only use your first name (no last names, addresses, IM screen names, etc.)
2. Show respect and consideration of others when posting and commenting. This includes individuals, students, organizations, political parties, colleagues, etc.
3. Check all posts for spelling and grammar errors before posting.
4. Protect the privacy of others. Gain permission from other people before you write about them. Avoid sharing someone else's last name. Use job titles or pseudonyms when writing about experiences with your co-workers or students.
5. Watch your language. Use politically correct and non-offensive language.
6. Make sure you write about things that are factual.
7. Keep your postings education-oriented. Avoid discussing plans for the weekend, etc.

Testing

I have 4 out of 21 students here today for 2nd block. We are having 10th grade writing test and senior leadership day. Since I have a blend of 9-12 graders in my classes, any disruption like this interferes with my plans for the day. What do you do with 4 students? If I assign work then 17 students will have to make that up. If I don't assign work then nothing productive occurs and we get behind. Is there a solution for this? This type of disruption seems to happen often for my classes because of the blend of students.

my classes draw a serial killers name out of a hat on the first day of class. they have a final project that is due 2 weeks before the semester is over. on days of testing (there are more than you would think)i give them classtime to work on their project...at least they are doing something constructive and the other students are not getting left behind

I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago with testing. My 2nd period class that is usually a 55 minute class was to last 21/2 hours. I knew a day in advance, so I went to Blockbuster and rented Patch Adams. As you know it is a wonderful story and the kids loved it. It's a true story about a wonderful Doctor and fit right in with healthcare.

I also have this situation happen often, and to add to the situation-almost everyday I have a couple or more students who have received ISS for various reasons. I finally had to give our ISS instructor one of my textbooks to keep in her room. I can email her with the lessons for each student due at the appropriate times. However, the many situations that come along during the week with my students having different things that pull them out of my class is almost humorous! I don't know the solution. So I hold each individual student responsible for ANY make-up work.- Riley
