Teaching Experience This Semester

I have been promoting student involvement in Skills USA. I have offered a solution to cover their annual dues by participating in a fundraiser. The fundraiser was building birdhouses. I had an overwhelming, 106 students, that committed to this fundraising project. I was excited and overwhelmed by the response. I still have over eighty birdhouses to sell. The students are eager to go to the next level of learning and participation. Our club numbers have multiplied almost 5 times more than last year. This is my first year being in charge of the Skills USA club. I wanted to make it educational, fun & memorable. We are on our way to accomplish that.

  1. Skills USA is a great experience for students and for you as well. I had students in VICA every year I taught and the leadership activities and competitions always motivated me as well as my students. The National Skills Competition is quite impressive and is an experience students will never forget, so work hard to get them there. Other student organizations such as HOSA, FFA, DECA, etc., also involve and challenge students above and beyond the classroom. They are all great ways to enrich your program - way to go.

  2. Sounds like you are having fun. What a great project. It just shows that your kids what to do things with you. The social skills that you are teaching are much more fun and subtle. Congrats!
