Journey to Master Teacher

When I first took a look at the blog, I decided to research what makes a person a master teacher. According to various sources, a master teacher is one who connets with their students, colleagues, parents and community on a leadership level. Master teachers have effective teaching methods and take advantage of challenging situations. I believe with the information I received through NTI, along with my own successes and failures I can begin to consider achieving master teacher recognition in the near future.

Recently I had the opportunity to see a success manifest by one of my student's achievements. My region recently held our Skills USA region championships this past friday. I had the honor of having one of my students place second in the carpentry competition and will move on to compete in the state competition. I felt so proud of my student and melted when I heard his name called. He was so excited and had the biggest smile on his face when he went to receive his medal. That moment made all of the things that I have dealt with disappear. If the steps to reaching master teacher are going to include moments like that, I'm all in. I look forward to being apart of his state competition and adding that to another one of my teachable moments.

  1. I think that it is really good that you took the time to research what a master teacher "looks" like. It is good to get a perspective on something before commenting on it. It is really important to connect with your students. I don't think that one can be a good teacher without connecting with his students. Congratulations on your victory at Skills USA. I know how you feel. There is nothing better than seeing the look of accomplishment on the student's face. Good luck at state.
