Week September 8,2014 Rayner

Hello,
I am very thankful for all of the strategies that I have learned this summer at NTI.  It has been extremely helpful having well thought out lesson plans prepared.  The school year has started and has moved very fast so having my lessons plans done has given me time to focus on some of my other responsibilities. I also  utilize having at least two students repeat my directions and it really seems to help the students pay closer attention when I give directions because I usually ask specific students to repeat the directions.  I have also enjoyed having my inventory sheet that we prepared this summer.  My lab needs everything and I must submit my order by September 26, 2014.  Having most of the items that will be needed already on the sheet has saved me a lot of time.  If I had not started NTI this summer I don't know how my year would be going right now but I imagine it would be very crazy.  It has been very helpful having a well thought out classroom management plan as well, although I'm constantly tweaking it.  This is an exciting journey as a first year student.

  1. Candice I enjoyed reading your blog. You are a delightful person and I can see nothing but great things in your future. As a first year teacher last year I recall the "Scared" feeling and the unpreparedness. I remember staying up all night scrambling to get lesson plans together for the follwing day.
You are very lucky that you have started your year off with so much knowledge. Your students will be better off having completed the structured class environment you have provided for them.
I really enjoy reading that you have established such a great routine of repeating directions back and the inventory sheet method. It really seems like you are very organized. Have a great year!

  2. Hi Candice,
It sounds like you are off to a really good start. It is actually positive that you are tweaking your classroom management plan. Each school and group of students is different so it is good to have a basic plan and then customize it. As you grow in confidence you may even ask for student input. Sometimes they are tougher in their suggestions than you would be. Wait until at least next semester to ask for their input. Right now I think what you are doing is good. I can't wait to come see you . . Dr. J.
