We also had a visit from the State DOE this past week. The preparations were intense. At the end of last year I had to compile specific information. (mind you I had taken over this job in January) My knowledge of the program was primary and it was mostly survival mode last year. The good news was the HCS program was just started so there was not much information to gather or be prepared with, so I thought. We had meetings and everyone was staying late to prepare (it was nice to have company as I stay late anyway everyday.....me and the crickets). The day came for the visit and all was going smoothly until.....I was on my planning period with a stack of copies to make, one foot out the door, when my AP and a DOE representative stepped in. Introductions were made, my AP left and there I was....me, this person ......and the crickets. GULP. What I learned during that hour of questioning is that more than anything, my program is ever evolving and I am part of that evolution. My opinions mattered to him, as did his adgenda. I also learned that being a good listener was key.
OMG! With everything else you have had to deal with - this had to cross your path! Should I prepare myself for this as well? I am supposed to help the new teacher that replaced my at the HS I was at last year to do her recert for the industry certified program but have not had even a moment to do so. It means another day away from my students. I hate to leave them with a sub only because I know what and how they like to learn (can you imagine that?!) and all I can give them to do with a sub is reading and worksheets. I am being pulled out of class this Wednesday to do pacing guides and benchmarks and then again the following week to take HOSA students to Fall Leadership Conference. I need to clone myself! But, again- I can only imagine how you made it through your day! I sure wish we lived closer to be able to share things and just get together to let each other know we are not alone! Hang in there- I know you are doing a great job and the students need someone like you!!

ReplyDeleteOur school is also preparing for our visit with the State. I have reviewed their list of things that need to be in place. The good thing, is everything from our NTI class this summer is listed in the oiutline that was provided. So as long as you have everything in place, you will be fine. Also, I was told my my administrators that I need to move my room around to accomodate their requirements. Hopefully, everything will go fine during the visit.
