Changed Impressions
After
completing the required reading my impressions of a guidance counselor’s roles
and responsibilities did not drastically change. However, two aspects of the research did make
an impression. One facet that captured
my attention was the historical changes that occurred and dictated the changes
in the counselor’s responsibilities. Probably, what resonates the loudest were teachers
being appointed counselors as an additional duty. This sounds very familiar to me because at my
school teachers are being trained as advisers to assist counselors with
overwhelming workloads. Another, aspect
that I found interesting was the counselor’s role in analyzing and correlating data
to AYP. This factor alone emphasizes the
multi- disciplinary backgrounds of counselors.
