Replacement
I would have to say classroom management is the key. You must set clear expectations for the students on day one. I believe you should deal with today’s problems today. Don’t put things off until the last minute. Everything just piles up and creates more stress. I think you should always treat everyone with respect, (especially students, office staff, custodial staff, and cafeteria staff.) I recommend filling the period with interesting activity, and always monitor the students, never turn your back. If you sincerely care about the students and their success, you will be successful.
Angie you did a great summary of what your replacement will need. I agree classroom management is the key. This is an area that I still struggle with. When you start out with clear expectations of the students and remain consistent your job is much easier. Students know when you are not prepared, so you must plan real and relevant activities. Your final statement is very true; you will be successful if you care about the students. Many students are just looking for someone to sincerely care about them.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that you have to have classroom management. Also I agree that you need to do things as they come. I have a to do folder. I try and clean that folder out daily (TRY is the key word). There is so much paper work that you have to stay on top of it or it will take over! You do have to care about your students. They may have home lives that you could not even dream of so I always treat them like I would want someone to treat my child ;)
