Carl Perkins Funding
When I first started teaching, I was told that I had a budget for so many dollars and that I needed to spend it or loose it. I wasn't aware or told where the funding was coming from are if the amount was what was actually due to my program. I later learned that money was not allocated fairly due to being the new kid on the block,I did not receive my fair share. It appeared that the department chair spent it in a way that suited her, definitely for her program. Due to my new found knowledge about Perkin's funding, I can now speak the language and ask for equipment and supplies needed to make my program better so that my students will get the best experience that I can offer for them to succeed after high school.

ReplyDeleteI totally agree and relate to your comments. My chairman is a good person but he is busy, and he is in the architectural area.He did not know what supplies the Healthcare program needed. He told me I had a budget and gave me the requisition form. But with no knowledge of what the program needs were, or a clear understanding of my purpose, it is like giving money to a five year old and telling them to buy enough clothes for a year. I gained a lot from this class on Perkins legislations.
I agree! I felt alone when it came to understanding how th budget worked and what are important supplies to order. The Principals and AP's gives us bits and pieces of info when it comes to money. Now that I have this knowledge of The Perkins legislation, I'm more aware of what I can and cannot do. This will help shape my program and its success.
