Perkins Money

Since I began my career in education I have made less money every year. That is not really the direction I thought that I would be going. Although I make less money every year, I still seem to spend more money every year on supplies for my class projects. Something just doesn't add up here. Less money + spending more money= BAD!!! We are always encouraged to do "more hands on" or "project" based lessons, but guess what? That takes more money!!! That is why we need that Perkins money!!Our administrators always praise the work that we do and are so proud of all of the projects that we do, however, I don't think they realize how much money we spend out of our own pockets. I am very proud of our program and feel like we give our students so many learning opportunities. I would hate to have to cut back on our "hands on" activities, but I personally can not afford to spend more money out of my own pocket. If Perkins goes away I'm afraid that I will too, simply because I will not be able to afford to teach my class the way that it needs to be taught.

  1. Yes, this is what I have found also to be true not enough money to do projects to keep the students engaged with different activities. I know as educators we must make it work one way or another. So we just have to do the best we can do.

  2. You are right about spending money. When we get our allotment we are told to spend it quickly, before it goes away. I would like to be able to use it thru out the year. Even then I am sure it would not last long. We are being pressed to engage students more with less. I am sure it will get worse before it gets better. I hope we all can last. The students deserve a complete education .
