My time is my own worst emeny

I find myself looking forward to the week-long breaks scattered throughout the year as a relief AND a chance to plan ahead. Somehow it never seems to work out that way. I have so many things to do that I am up late every night, as most of you are, and still never quite catch up. Then the break comes, and I seem to lose focus. I write this 12 hours before I have to be back in the classroom after a week off. What did I accomplish toward my goal.....nothing! This is the part that really brings me down. I am really getting exhausted with so much to do.

  1. Wood,

Don’t feel bad! It seems that this year I am more behind than last year due to all of the outside forces that are pulling for our time. I think once we get everything behind us the focus can be redirected and we will be right where we need to be. Hang in there!!

  2. I know how you feel. I find myself in the same predicament. With so many things to do both professionally and personally, when do you ever have a chance to catch up. My mother had surgery this week so I am really playing catch-up. I have learned to compartmentalize and to not stress the little things. Good Luck!!!

  3. When I read your post I laughed out loud because this is exactly what I do! This is my 3rd year teaching and I still do this, although, not as much as I used to. One thing that I have had to tell myself is that this is a marathon, not a sprint. I know that in time I will have my lessons like I want them and I will have a better handle on how I manage my time. It seems to get a little better every year. I know that I am not the "best" teacher right now, but as long as I am steadily improving and learning, I'm okay with that. I think that we will always have to tweak our lessons and change a little here and there, but I don't think it will always be so overwhelming. At least, I hope not! With all of that being said, I can't wait until Summer so that I can work on next year!

  4. Hello Scott. I am in total agreement with you. I look forward to the breaks thinking what I can do with school work to make it possibly easier. I get nothing accomplished and feel that much further behind. I look forward to the repreive. Maybe I just need to rest during that time, which is well needed anyway. I try to do the most important things and what doesn't get done just doesn't get done. As I have stated, education is more that I had anticipated. There is too much to do in too little time. Will it ever get better? We are over worked and the students are unappreciative and could care less about our efforts.
