The Show is DONE!
This week saw our first morning show done on time - without Mr. Getz's help. Our morning shows are shot to tape and editing the day before, so once the bell rings, unless a student stays after to work on the show (most can't due to having to catch a bus) I have been doing it. On Tuesday, the bell rang and as my director rushed out the door, I said, "Jack! What about the show?" Only to hear, "The show is DONE!" I was amazed. Not that the show had been completed, but that my kids stepped up, got the show done and never said a word about it. They understood that it was part of their job, to get it done on time, without fuss. The next day, when asked, several students commented that they didn't think I should have to stay late to finish their work. (A few afternoons saw me here until 5:30 editing) I was so proud that they were looking at the project as a team effort. That sense of togetherness is what I am looking for in a BVP class. It was just so cool that nothing was said...like I was foolish for thinking the show wasn't finished. Haha. When you feel like you are working with the kids, not against them; when YOU are part of the team, not just the coach, calling in plays - that's what teaching is all about.
I am so glad to hear that you had a good experience with the show. I felt so bad about your last post. Teachers can be the worst sometimes and I couldn't believe that they would discourage the student's work like that.
ReplyDeleteIt would be nice if all of our problems could be solved immediately but it sounds like you are on your way!!!!!
Hi, Bruce - yes, that is what teaching is all about! Great post - keep after it - it should just keep getting better and better!
