Activty that I tried or implemented would be small groups. I love having set small groupsl I do not have the confusion or the group problems that I encountered in the past. Last week I tried to have a discussions with my small groups. That did not work out for me. The students began raising their voices and getting out of control before I knew it. In the future I will have to set more guidelines prior to the activity.
Aimee maybe that information could be delivered in a role play. I had a group that was getting bored and tired of the way information on positive attitude was being delivered. So I schemed with one of our resource people to come into my class and question something that was being planned for that class. It was hard to keep a straight face as we played out in a non positive and un-professional way to discuss things.
ReplyDeleteYou should have seen the draw drops. The other teacher and myself finally began laughing. It brought energy, life and positive response to the group. It was surprising how much they got from the class when the contrast to positive attitude was displayed.
You have to know if your students can handle that and be very careful of the delivery. There are many ways to do a role play that would not be so severe. The main thing for me was to contrast the information I was trying to deliver. Sometimes I have to use what I call a change up pitch.
I hope you find this helpful.
Thanks,
