What I've Learned

Skills USA is a ripoff!!!!!!!! The prices keep going up and we cant afford to go. State comp this year is our prom weekend so we cant stay 2 nights at the motel. Since we only booked 1 night they upped our room rate to $199 a night. That is ridiculous. We wont be goin to SkillsUSA

  1. I totally agree with you. We are requird to participate, but there are no real incentives. The kids can't come up with the money needed to go, so we never have that many students participating. Trying to get a fundraiser or even get the kids to participate in a fundraiser is like pulling teeth.

  2. I hear you as well!! HOSA is a joke and a money laundering scheme. We are expected to do these things but thankfully my school system is backing me up on this. I will no longer participate in HOSA related activities. No point in us lining anymore pockets. I wonder if Skills is the same way?!?!?!

  3. While there are some benefits to participating in SKILLS, there are some obvious drawbacks.Lots of folks can't pony up the first fee, let alone the competition fees. Fundraisres are tough; most of our tech-prep students have 0 to no interest in that.

  4. I do understand what each of you are saying about skillsMy program got a lot of help from our career tech department. We are taking 35 students and 5 teachers to state compition in April. The only cost to the students is $60.00.Should any of these students win first place the cost for them to to go to National is only $120.00 Last year we sent 11 students they won 1 first and 2 seconds. The automotive is the only department that does fund raising.
