Advice to new HSTE teacher

My advice is to be prepared for the worst but expect the best. Don't be afraid to ask questions and don't be surprised if your classes are dumping grounds for students not interested in HSTE. Find someone to vent to / provide a listening ear . This blog is an excellent way to vent and to also realize that our situation isn't as bad as some of our collegues. Be sure to take time out for yourself and remember this too shall pass.

  1. A totally agree - first semester was a complete dumping ground for my classes. This semester is much better and I know that next year will be as well at least for my upper level students because I have recruited the "good" students to continue with the program. Actually they are staying because I am so handsome and funny. I know my first level will always be rough, but hopefully I can weed out the uninterested and keep the ones who really want to study law enforcement.
