Those were the days

Did you know that teaching is rank among the risk jobs in America? Did you know that teachers are among the endangered species in America? The high premium that was placed on education and its educators is now in the dim and distance past. School administrators are becoming less and less capable of dealing with the behavior that has pierce the walls of our schools.
Security is the biggest concern for most school principals, since some of our schools have become a battlefield for criminals. Some teachers have to contend on a daily basis, with students with knives and guns and parents threatening teachers at every opportunity they get.
Our young boys and girls are growing up without mothers and fathers, and the age of parent-wood is getting lower and lower each day.
NTI teachers please do not give up on our youths all is not yet lost the day is still young.

I teach at a "technical" high school. We receive students from four "regular" county high schools. Security has not been a large concern for us in the past - the occassional fight, etc. Lately drugs have been our growing concern. I think I have a few kids selling, but am not sure. Is there a reference model out there for new teachers? I have read board policy - I could quote it. The reality is that most instructors don't really know what to do when they just "suspect" a student is dealing/using. If any of the "old" teachers are reading-HELP!

  2. Plain and simple, We need to make a place for God in all of this. Our country was founded on that same principal. He's the cure-all.

  3. I guess if the politicians could look back at the time when they BANNED GOD from public schools,I would hope that they would change their minds. But when your hear GODS name used the way it is on television and the radio it's no wonder the schools are like they are.It seems Very few people care anymore, and those who do can't seem to shout as loud as the ones who don't.Just my thoughts.Have a very merry CHRISTmas.

  4. Greetings NTI,
I concur with all of your comments and ask myself daily if I am CERTAIN that I want to deal with the elements that come along with teaching. There are many good students with morals and values, but as they say, "one apple can spoil the bunch". I know that if we don't bring God back into the schools and our lives, we will continue to fight relentlessly and without the proper weapons. "For the weapons of this warfare are not physical...."
    Never Give Up!
