Does anyone else have a high number of students cheating this year? This has been the worst so far out of my three years. I had a student turn in her final paper today over a topic they have been working on all semester and she plagerized the whole thing from the internet. Word for word, line for line, misspelling for misspelling, etc. It makes me sick. She's one of my top students too. I had to call home and she has 2 days ISS.
How do we keep them from engaging in these activities and being outright lazy??
i know your pain..i usually have about 2 to 3 a semester copy and paste on my final project...the answer i get is give them a 0 and write them up..if they have been caught before we will do more..i tell my knuckleheads that i am going to check the internet and look for that but someone always tries to cheat
ReplyDeleteGive them an inch... Construction is a little diferent, but I still have the same problems. Are today's youth totally worthless? I hope not- they will be changing my diaper one day! Truly, I think I spend more time teaching morals and ethics than I do my curriculum. Ooops- don't let my administration see that! Hang in - it will get better>

Joe is right!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start doing more case studies with my kids on all of the important issues concerning my area, many of which will deal with morals and ethics. I've just finished one for our last assingment for NTI and I'm going to use it in class on Monday. I'm excited to see how well it goes.
i spoke with a kid about copying his paper off the internet and he told me another teacher accused him of the same thing...when i spoke with that teacher i was told administration told him not to write him up because apparently he had not done a good enough job teaching the kids what plagiarism is....WOW
