Money Talks

I was the school resource officer with at that time 20 years experience before I started teaching. The only reason I started this profession was some good people telling me I had a gift from God to teach. They saw something that I didn't see at first. Since I have been doing this, I have built up my kid in SkillsUSA. I have 4 kids that are members of my local police dept explorer, 1 that's a fireman, and 1 young lady that works for a funeral home. The kids love me and the class. I was paid based on my years of experience, now the system has frozen my pay. I will be losing $7,000 dollars. I love teaching, but I have responsibilities.

I need some advice!

  1. Hey Walter,
As one of several new teachers in our group(laugh)and speaking for a few more the money can't be a driving force. As an experienced tradesman I could have taken a job that would pay me more but my PASSION is teaching people, as I have recently found out. I have taken a good look at my budget and have eliminated some things that I really didn't need. I'm down-sizing my house to reduce the payment(which is soon to be zero God willing)as well as utilies etc. Iv'e realized that your lifestyle should be adjusted to support your passion not the other way around. I have less money now but my bills are still paid and I can't wait to get to work everyday. I hope that helps.

That's a tough one. The only advice I can give you is whatever decision you make be in agreement with your wife. You both deserve to live in unity.
