Co-Workers

I have a great relationship with the teachers I work with, however I often get a little frustrated when they don't step up to the plate and address some of the school infractions in plain view. I feel that when everyone(Admin.,Teachers,Staff, etc) are on the same page than we can accomplish more. Often times I see student walking down the hall with IPODS,Phones, etc and they pass 6 teachers and I have to be the one to ask them to put it away. Don't get me wrong...I know what battles to fight and how to handle situations but our jobs can be a lot more effective if ALL chip in and enforce some things. Teacher presence doesn't hold any weight and it is pitiful because I can think about when I was in High School and if certain teachers came your way you immediately found somewhere else to be...today it appears that the students DARE teachers to say anything to them...it's ridiculous!. We as teachers need to show them that we RUN THE SCHOOL...not them!
I know that if 7-10 teachers are on the watch then you are not likely to break the rules....
But as we know some teachers need a little guidance as well(*stay tuned for future BLOG about that subject)

  1. JuJuan! I thaught I was the only teacher like this, The first two weeks of school everything went well, all teachers were on the same page, students were well behaved. Now students walk the hallway with different electronics and teachers stand at their classroom door and said nothing, then when I told them to put it away they want to know why the other taecher did not said anything, then I become the bad person. The same goes for my co-teacher my students always want to go to his group because I don't give grades or I am too strict.

  2. I totally agree with you. It happens all of the time. How about when you send referrals to the office and never hear back from the administrator? I am with you on this one. Things can run a lot smoother if we are all on the same page.

Your administration should be more insistent on teachers enforcing school policies. I would e-mail your concerns to your administration without naming names. My guess is sooner or later somebody from the superintendents office will show up at the school, chew out the administration and the administration will blame the teachers. You'll have documentation that you've made them aware of the problem and have tried to do your best.
