What I could have done differently this week.
This was an interesting week. The highlight of the week was practicing knife skills by carving pumpkins in every class. The one thing I would have done differently is grouping. I grouped by gender instead of randomly. Although, there was great competition between the genders, I think the competition outcomes would have been more interesting. It was a great success, but realized the dynamics could have yielded more collaboration among students.
That sounds like a great project. Since I am in a predominately male field, I have learned not to do the gender break down. Also, since we have so many different dynamics to the gender, it starts to get very complicated. I try to close the gap with the genders by putting them together and have a mixed team, when ever possible. I rarely have more than 3 girls in my classes, I try not to group them together.
ReplyDeleteNice try though!!! We live and we learn....
Have you tried to bake those pumpkin seeds...mmmmm...good eating
HI Jesse,
ReplyDeleteHave you tried some of the grouping strategies we talked about at the beginning of the semester? We spend several weeks on "grouping" and maybe something there will be helpful.
