Be Frugal or Die
The main reason to support Perkins in short is money! The school budgets continue to shrink and every department and division is trying to as many dollars as possible. Perkins has been a Federal source of money for years. The CTAE teacher who wants to keep the hope alive must continue to show that there is a good return on the investment for the federal government. This is done by producing good students and programs that are accountable. CTAE to survive must show that they are frugal with every dollar. Waste in spending must never be a part of the program. If the dollars are not used wisely the program will die.
Scott I am in agreement with you. We must in our students and their futures, if not what does our future hold. As the saying goes, "what you put in to something is what you will in turn get out of it". Funding would allow an opportunity to advance our present programs. It would also allow the opportunity to expand our current programs so that we can service more students. I like being able to offer our students something that other classes don't offer. We offer the opportunity to learn skills that can be used on jobs and even careers. Our classes are electives so the studens elect to take our courses, unlike the typical courses, i.e. math, english, science, and social studies. Since all of our students may not go to college or academically not able to be successful in college, our programs need the continued and increased funding to make sure that all of our students at least have the opportunity to become successful. I like having the opportunity of being able to instill values in my students all of which come from varying educational and socioeconomic backgrounds.
ReplyDeleteWell put Scott. During these tough economic times, it is imperative that we make sure that we are producing a quality product by way of students and programs. Accouuntability is is the name of the game. Our students have to be able to leave our programs with something tangible to show that there is a relevance for CTAE. In my program, my focus is to ensure that I have students who graduate and go on to take the State Board Exam in Cosmetology. In order t keep the dream alive- we must make a way for students to leave high school with sme type of certification.
ReplyDeleteScott I agree with you 100 percent on this. We have all seen the budget cuts and it affects us daily. My students are even beginning to ask questions about this. If they want us to run efficient classrooms then we are going to need some money from somewhere. They spend it on other things all the time! Why not help us out just a little?!?!
