If I was going to be delivering a course via Elluminate Live, I would have to consider many things. First of all, I would have to consider my students. I need to know how much they know about technology so that I know how much time I need to spend teaching the technology aspect of the course. This would help the course run smoother and save time in the long run. I would need to consider the learning styles of my students. Do they need a Powerpoint so that they can visually see the lesson? Do they need to do an activity? Everyone learns differently, and that should be considered. I would have to consider the schedule. Some students may be teaching until 3:45, so I do not need to start my class at 4:00. I really like the Powerpoints and the group work that is possible with Elluminate Live. It is really nice to be able to read along while the instructor is talking. The group work allows students to check their understanding and to compare understandings.

Riley, I definitely agree with the group work and being able to check our answers together. As I remember, we were in the same group this week! I also like to be able to read along and make notes as the instructor is talking and providing the lesson. Another aspect that you point out is that we all learn differently and Illuminate gives us that flexibility. We are able to hear, type or take notes, see and even move around if needed in the comfort of our own home (in pajamas I might add). How great would it be too, if we could develop lessons with our classmates, then present them to our students together. I would really like to work with some of my health care buddies and plan Illuminate activities for our students. Hopefully our Monday nights will assist us with some of these options.
ReplyDeleteI agree also that we all learn differently, and this offers flexibility. This is also a very important aspect of our lessons in this course. The work groups are fun, and I believe the time constraints make the workgroups more productive. (Note to self- remember last sentence) I also miss the interaction of a traditional class, but to be fair we have only done this a couple of times.
