My issue this week is parents. They just don't understand. We need more information on how to deal with parents. The students are skipping class and they want me to tell them were the student is. The school is so big I have no idea. This is new for me because my last school was only one floor and there was no where hide. Any advise would be welcome.
Hi, Stacy - It's not your position to be able to tell anyone where students go who are skipping your class (unless you do know), that should be the admin's task. Make sure you are reporting them (students) to the proper administrator and they should follow up.
ReplyDeleteAs for the parents, they can be a solution for the skipping if they know their child is doing so, so make sure they are contacted and treat them like you would want to be treated concerning your child. Even a negative situation can be handled positively, with an outcome of support from the parent(s). They usually do want to help and they always want to see their children succeed, many times they just need to know what is going on and what they can do to help.
Also involve the school counselors in repeat skipping situations, like the second time it occurs with the same student. And hey, make your class so much fun and meaningful that they will come to you even if they skip others.
