CROWDED CLASSES!!!!!!!!!

My counselors are killing me...if it's not the "Who's Who of the Behavioral/I hate School/I'll be old enough to drink in 6months crew" than it's "let's put them in Mr. Wright's class"{because he has plenty of room....}
According to my Vocational Supervisor(Asst. Principal) we (CTAE) will lose some type of funding???? not sure what he said earlier in the year???? .......If we have over 28 students in our class. Well, the counselors are not concerned about that and continue to pile them in....I ONLY HAVE 28 BOOKS...can we say "PROBLEM!!!"...sharing is out the window, they are class room books and I used them regularly. Lucky Dr. S (Voc. Sup) supports us(CTAE) and hopefully things can get worked out.....Every child deserves the attention of their teacher...I can't do that with my numbers......

...this is a certified "VENT"..sorry!

  1. JaJuan, I have the opposite problem. My largest class is 20, and it's my last (and worst!) class of the day. My other class sizes are 11, 14, and 12. I could lose my program for lack of students!

  2. i typically have around 30 for the first few days of school but our counselors and principals work dillegently to get it down to 28 within a few day so we dont lose funding..i was under the impression that 28 was also state law for vocational classes not just a number for funding..but i may be wrong on that

  3. JaJuan,
    I have the same problem Julie is having. My classes are small, 16, 14 and 10. These kids here at Carver in Columbus(southside, nner-city, socially inept, gangland, drugs, no home training, etc., etc. don't seem to have a lot of interest in this program. I don't know what the future holds for me here so I've started browsing around for opportunities at other schools. True, it's one thing to have the numbers but another to have the sustained interest!

  4. Well to my understanding it is in the books that our max class load should be 28. I have been told that by every one in my department as well as my A.P.. Unfortunately Career Tech classes do serve as a dumping ground for counselors who need to "stick" kids some where. These kids are mostly the undesireable ones also. However, I have found that counselors will only get away with what you let them get away with. If you continue to call them on the magic number 28 eventually they will do the work the first time rather than having to do the work twice.
