Being Prepared

One area in which I would like to improve is having all my supplies ready before EVERY class. I always wind up digging through my cabinet or storeroom, wasting class time.

  1. Hi, Jama - do you have a supply manager that can help with this, or is this a teacher-only task?

  2. I was stressing myself out with trying to get all my paperwork ready for each class (each level), so I made a folder for each unit/lesson with all of my master copies organized with tabs. Now I don't have to carry around a giant folder and I have one of each paper with me to make copies when needed instead of storing giant stacks. Maybe you can have rubbermaid containers with materials for each lesson, packed and ready to go for class.

  3. I find myself in this same predicament. Even when my lesson plans are already done, I found that I need to make use of my time to ensure that all my supplies and materials are available. I can probably blame it on having Block 10 planning. I have gotten used to having that time. I have to understand that situations may occur such as covering another teacher's class and will eliminate the time I thought I may have.

  4. I have had the same issue in the BVP curriculum. Often, my students and I will finish our day either in the field or the editing lab. I usually leave five minutes of class planning for closure. This five minutes, I'm finding, may be insufficient. However, for a 55 minute class, I am reluctant to take even five minutes more from instruction/ production time for lesson closure. Consequently, the six minute class transition from bell to bell leaves me frantically scrambling back to the starting block for the next class. CTE teachers have a great deal going on in their learning environment. Stay true to your lesson plan, particularly the materials required for each lesson. I tell my students to "plan the shoot and shoot the plan." I am learning to not compromise those essential elements of your instruction (materials).

  5. I am famous for leaving right when school is out in the afternoon. The bad thing about this is that I have to be organized when school starts. How do I accomplish it, I come at least an hour early every day. You have to choose early or late, but you have to be organized.
