Identify one area where you would like to grow and improve as a teacher this semester

If I had to name just one area that I would like to improve upon this semester it would be my organizational skills.  I am normally a very organized and neat person, but this has waned in the  past year. I have so many things going on (preaching to the choir) that I actually prepare things for lessons and then misplace them for a day sometimes, because there is too many other things on my desk.  It is compounded by the fact that I share my classroom with another teacher. Short of getting a bigger desk, I'm going to have to focus on better organization.

  1. Diane, you are my sister! When I wrote my own blog I had the same thoughts as you and I must admit they are still just thoughts. I finally did make a decision however to start utilizing my student interns to help me get organized and to stay organized. I find that many of my students could use some organization skills of their own so its a win win situation. If all else fails,I can always hire a professional organizer, I hear they only charge $150/hour!

  2. Organization is the key to everything in life. It makes our world a better place. I utilized the Personnel Organization chart we did this past summer and it is really helpful. Students love to be leaders and take on various responsibilities if you allow them to be leaders.

Also, consider planning ahead with the assistance of your Dept. Chair or a Senior student who is great at typing or filing. I find this to be helpful as well.

  3. I'm struggling with organization as well. I think that getting the students to take care of some of the filing is a good idea. I plan on implementing that suggestion this week with some of my class officers. There are some students out there who are naturals when it comes to organization! I am certainly going to start using them more.
