Learning Domains
I think it is very valuable to prepare learning objectives in each domain of learning and at various levels because it enables students to learn at the most basic level and then build on that basic knowledge. I have been guilty of teaching above the students' head. I now realize that if students have not been given the basic knowledge, then asked to comprehend that knowledge, they will not be able to apply that knowledge. Teaching and learning must be done in a logical order. Learning domains are a very valuable tool in student assessment.
Pamela, I did that last year, taught above their heads. I had to really shift gears in the way I was teaching. I had to simplify everything. Even how to hold a hammer. I didn't ever think I had to show how to hold a hammer. But, then it all made sense in these past exersices.
ReplyDeleteI've been to classes recently that stated we need to start at a higher level to promote critical thinking. The class was about rigor and relevance. I'm new at this and for me it's important to start simple and become more complex as we go along. I think it just makes sense the way we're being taught about Bloom's in NTI. For me I visualize the concept of a tight rose bud that blooms into a beautiful flower. So I agree, we need to keep it simple at first.
